Who is headspace for?
Supported by great youth friendly GPs, psychologists and counselors, headspace Gold Coast is an accessible 'one-stop-shop' for young people aged 12-25 and currently we have met over 400 young people have come in because they have been experiencing: Anxiety, Depression, Drug or Alcohol issues, Difficulty at school / home / work, Relationship hassles, Worry, Health related issues, Stress, Feelings of helplessness, Bullying, Young Parenthood, Grief or Loss, Anger management, Lack of Motivation or struggles caring for somebody who is having a few problems.

Headspace is not a Crisis service, but it is a responsive service. The whole idea is that by coming into headspace when things begin to get complicated – we hope young people will be less likely to require hospital or rehabilitation services. Young people are at the Centre of care at headspace surrounded by a whole lot of support from headspace and many other youth services that bring their skills and programmes together to prevent anyone having to tell their story twice or get lost between the gaps.

What is the cost?
One of the great things about headspace is that if you have a Medicare /health care card, there will be sliding scale or no costs at all.

What else has headspace been doing in the community?
Headspace has employed a core Youth Access team and a Community Development worker who all work promoting the service to all the young people on the Coast as well as the Youth Sector.

We are passionate about getting positive healthy choice messages out to young people across the Coast as well as with the Youth / Health Sector services.

In 2009, headspace will offer the community a range of training opportunities that we believe will increase everyone’s capacity to respond to young people’s needs and issues.

Over the past few months, headspace has also had the benefit of many Mirikai residents contribute as volunteers, doing all sorts of jobs such as helping to paint the offices, create and hang amazing artwork up on the walls, help on reception, clean and do maintenance, develop resources and provide insight from their personal journeys. This is important for everyone because they get to give back and contribute- and headspace and the young people who come in meet people who have first hand experience of coming through difficulties.
