INTER URBAN ARTS

Inter Urban Arts was developed by Gold Coast Drug Council Inc. in 2008 by Libby Harward to support the expansion of arts and cultural activities they deliver. Gold Coast Drug Council have a long history with using arts and community cultural development initiatives as a tool for therapy, self development and as a way of supporting and allowing people experiencing marginalization to participate in community life. Gold Coast Drug Council advocates for the arts to be used in a community context to:

  • Engage and provide pathways for at risk clients (particularly those with issues of co-morbidity) into support services.
  • Promote and give voice to people's needs and concerns both personally and politically.
  • Encourage people to have fun and celebrate achievements.
  • Encourage people to engage in community and cultural life.
  • Support people to develop and practice skills in personal growth,
  • Provide opportunity to participate in training within the arts and cultural industries
  • Provide a forum for cross cultural exchange by engaging and interacting with diverse groups of people, and sharing stories.
  • Provide a forum for educating and sharing stories with at risk youth and government around issues affecting young people in drug addiction.
  • Ensure we live in a community that is colorful and celebrates diversity.
