DRASTIC
Drama, Rhythm, Ritual, Art, Self-Therapy Inspired Creations was initiated in 2001 by two former residents of Mirikai, who had been inspired by how the arts had helped them in their recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The program works with young people to develop their strengths and skills through art and other creative activities.
The program uses peer mentor-driven education and treatment, for young people 12-17 years with complex needs, such as youth substance abuse, mental illness, and being part of the juvenile justice system and/or outside the education system.
The DRASTIC program employs the skills of a team of peer mentors 16-30. These peer mentors are young people who have overcome adversity. These young people work alongside and support participants to achieve fantastic outcomes in their artistic creations as well as personally through opportunistic peer support and informal harm reduction education. Drastic Runs workshops in Screenprinting, Clay modeling, Tye dying, Stencilling, Lino cut printing, Plush doll making, Multi media, Illustration, Stop motion animation, Photography, Theatre.
The DRASTIC program can be designed for diverse groups and can be delivered in different locations. If you are interested in the program please let us know and we can talk about it's possibilities.
